Tom Petty songs I like better. There are certain Awesome Tom Petty 1950-2017 Legends never die signature shirt songs in his catalog that are better. However, I have always thought this tune captures something innate about the egalitarian nature of the Heartbreakers. Tom plays a solo, Mike Campbell plays a solo, and Scott Thurston plays the harmonica part. It is a catchy song without being trite. It is enduring in the sense that it could have been recorded at any point in his career and would fit. It happened to be recorded in 1993, which was about midway through his career. Finally, it highlights what was, I think, Petty’s greatest gift, which was to write solid songs that hold up to repeated listening. Tom was one of the best songwriters in the history of rock and roll.

Dylan everybody tried to sing like Elvis. Awesome Tom Petty 1950-2017 Legends never die signature shirt After Bob Dylan hit the scene everybody tried to sing like Dylan insomuch that the “voice” did not have to be pretty to convey a song. Tom Petty in a lot of his songs sings in a twangy nasal tone like Dylan but I feel like he carved out his own niche. So no I don’t think he copied Dylan’s style too much. I saw them together two nights in a row in 1986–87. One night in Austin, Dylan told little stories and commentary before certain songs like Ballad of a Thin Man. The next night in Dallas not so much. By 1989 with Full Moon Fever Petty had hit his stride. Also that year Dylan made “another” come back with Oh Mercy!
